Acer palmatum 'Okushimo'

Okushimo Japanese maple

One of the most unusual varieties when it comes to form and leaf shape. The leaves are extremely small, crinkly, and deep green. The edges of each leaf curl over as if they entire plant is wilting. The habit is very columnar for a palmatum type, reaching 12 feet in height but only 4 feet wide. The fall colors are brilliant; a mixture of yellows and oranges.

May people make the mistake of overwatering this cultivar. The leaves curl giving the appearance of lack a of water.
