Darkest purple of the smoke tree varieties. Foliage emerges purple-red aging to deep purple-black. Flower panicles of purple "smoke" are liberally produced in early spring lasting until early summer. Compact, rounded habit can be kept as a medium sized shrub or allowed to reach small tree size. For the biggest, darkest foliage display, prune the plant to the ground each spring. New vigorous shoots will grow producing the large, deep purple leaves. This pruning regimen will prevent flower production, however.
